TIST

June 2006

The planting of trees is the least self-centred of all that we do. It is a purer act of faith than bring-up children.

Sakthi Small Group of Molachur Center

This Small Group has more than 8 species of trees in their grove, totalling to 2,035 trees. There are 874 casuarina, 181 Drum Stick, 15 Guava, 8 Lemon, 31 Mango, 312 Neem, 559 Team and 55 few other Indian Species. Few trees are more than two years old, Guava & Lemon trees are about give them yield, Drum Stick trees has already started to give them good yield. One of the important activities of this Small Group Members is that, they all work very hard in their groves to save their trees and grow them productive.

They do not plant trees to depend only on TIST Voucher payment, they plant limited and selective trees, which gives them some additional benefits other than TIST Voucher – This is one of the best practices, which the other existing Small Groups and upcoming Small Groups should follow. In May 2006, they have received Rs.1,505/- as Voucher Payment from TIST. The members of this Small Group have taken initiative to spread TIST program among their friends / relatives, they have introduced two new families to TIST program.

Vandhavasi Center

Most of the Small Groups of Vandhavasi Center have more of Casuarina trees in their groves. TIST has been emphasizing the members to have multiple species of trees. There should be minimum three types of trees in the ratio of 30:30:40, and too the trees should of long standing type. The commitments fulfilled by TIST in the other areas have boosted the members of Vandhavasi Center to participate in all the Node meetings. The Small Groups who were idle all these days have started to submit SGMR reports and are in verge of receiving Voucher Payment. Their Voucher Payment would be released immediately after they open SB account on their Groups name.

Lotus Small Group of Vandhavasi Center

This Small Group has three types of species totaling to 69,910 trees. There are 65,564 Casuarina, 4,165 Teak and 181 Pencil trees. The Casuarina trees with this Small Groups is of Hybrid type, suppose if any causarina tree falls due to cyclone, the tree doesn’t dies, it grows again by sprouting new branches. The spacing between each hybrid casuarinas trees is more than 5 feet, due to which the trees grow strong and thick. The members of Small Group still have more dry land area and they have promised to show some more trees other than casuarinas and eucalyptus immediately after summer. This Small Group is in line of getting Voucher payment in June 2006.

Chamundeshwari Small Group of Vandhavasi Center

This Small Group has five types of trees in their grove totaling to 1395. There are 127 Cotton, 23 Guava, 167 Mango, 227 Nelli. They have given enough spacing between each tree. The members have implemented drip water system for the groves. Though the watering is less, but still the ground stays wet due to drip water system, which allows the trees to grow well. Even this small group has planted limited and selective trees, which gives them some additional benefits other than TIST Voucher. The members of this small group stand as a good example setter in the Vandhavasi Node Meetings. This Small Group is also in line of getting Voucher payment in June 2006.
