GUIDELINES IN SELECTING NEW CLUSTER SERVANTS TRAINEES

IIn order to improve Quantification, we need more Cluster Servants and here are some criteria that you should consider:

• The person you select must be an adult. That is, above 18 years of age and not in school, college etc.

• The person you select should be a member of TIST, or have some knowledge about TIST or, someone who wants to join TIST.Being an active member of TIST should be an added advantage.

• The person you select should be able to use, or learn to use, a smart phone. TIST is now using smartphones for quantification, communication, and Cluster administration, among other duties.

• The person you select should be ready to abide by TIST Values.

• The person you select should be a resident of the Cluster or GOCC that s/he will be serving.

• The person you select should be willing to work with TIST and farmers for long term (several years).

• The person you select should be willing to learn and serve farmers diligently.

• The person you select should have a recommendation letter from area Chief, or sub-chief, or a church minister, or an elder. WHAT IS REQUIRED TO DO 100% CLUSTER COMPLETION? Cluster completion by 100%: Refers to the process of fully updating all groups in a particular Cluster to qualify for all the payments - that is prepayments and Profit Share. Here are the activities involved for 100% completion:

• Signing the GHG contract, scanned and uploaded on website

• Have good quality tracks

• All groups within the Cluster should be quantified in 12 months

• All groves in the group should be updated and quantified

• All baseline information must be collected and entered correctly • Conduct monthly Cluster updates CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD AND SUCCESSFUL TIST CLUSTER

• It must be composed of 30-50 Small Groups

• Must have planted 200,000 trees

• Should have a functional rotational leadership

• Practice Conservation Farming

• Practice energy-saving cook stoves

• Conduct monthly Cluster meetings

• Should have established nursery beds

• All the groups should have a fully signed and uploaded on the website GHG contract

• Should also practice other income generating activities besides tree planting e.g., apiculture and livestock rearing • They should adhere to TIST values

• Should work to produce many more groups and form more Clusters

QUANTIFICATION CALENDAR This refers to the schedule a Quantifier makes to guide and to help him/her complete different tasks in a specific period of time.

ADVANTAGES OF QUANTIFICATION CALENDAR

• It helps the Quantifiers to hit the target

• It helps the CS to know the updated groups and those that are not updated

• It helps CS to balance all other TIST activities with quantification in six months

•It helps CS to produce quality work in six months

• It helps leadership to monitor TIST activities easily looking at the calendar in six months

• It helps CS in planning their quantification movements, for example dry and wet seasons

• It enables Quantifiers to alert farmers to clean their groves

• It guides CS to quantify their groups effectively

• It helps the CS to gather all the required equipment to be used in six months, for example when training on nursery beds

• It reminds the CS when and where to work

• It helps leadership team and CS to identify weaknesses and how to solve them, and also identify strengths

•It helps CS to plan for all groups within the Cluster

•Work is done on time since everyday has its own task

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR TIST STRONG SMALL GROUPS

•TIST Small Groups are made of 6-12 members

• Members must come from at least three different families near each other

• TIST Small Groups commit to planting at least 1,000 trees per year for five years

• TIST Small Groups meet one time per week

•TIST Small Groups sign the GHG contract together

•TIST Small Groups will embody the TIST values

• TIST Small Groups practice rotational leadership and Kujengana

• Should have enough land to plant trees

• Should be able to establish nursery beds

• Should be able to plant trees that die by replacing them with new trees
